UNICEF: At least 27 children die in Idlib

According to a statement by UNICEF officials, 27 children lost their lives in the chemical attack carried out by the regime in the area of Khan Sheikh in southern Idlib. It is stated that more than 500 injured and worried that the number of dead will increase.

“The murder of children in Syria cannot be allowed to continue,” said Geert Cappelaere, Regional Director for UNICEF's Middle East. “Those who have influence on all parties and sides of the conflict must immediately cease this horror.”

According to the Syrian Human Rights Observatory, 86 people lost their lives including 30 children.

Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ said that the use of chemical weapons in the attack was proved by the results of autopsy in Turkiye, while the autopsies of three people, brought to Turkiye and then lost their lives, revealed this result.

Bozdağ also said that the representatives of the World Health Organization and the United Nations Chemical Weapons Inhibiting Organization also participated in the meeting, saying, “Assad's use of chemical weapons is also determined by this scientific review.”

In the written statement made by the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which carries out the legal process related to autopsies, it is stated that the deaths are caused by “chemical suffocation gas”.

The prosecutor explained the following about the autopsy result:

“According to the first findings of the autopsy, in which the officers participated in wearing special protective clothing against the hazard of any chemicals, it was determined that individuals were exposed to chemical suffocating gas, lost their lives, and had intense edema in their lungs. Tissue, plasma, blood, have been sent to the Gülhane Training and Research Hospital and the Forensic Medicine Institute Presidency for the necessary analysis of chemical weapons residues. Also same samples have been given to the representatives of the World Health Organization and the United Nations Chemical Weapons Ban Association on their requests. (Mustafa Kaynak - ILKHA)
