With temperatures soaring, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus took to Twitter to share vital tips to protect oneself and loved ones from the scorching heat.

The following precautionary measures were urged to be followed:

Wear Light Clothing: Donning light and breathable clothing can help individuals stay cool and comfortable during the heatwave.

Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water is paramount in preventing dehydration and heat-related illnesses.

Limit Outdoor Activities: During peak hours when the heat is most intense, the WHO recommends minimizing outdoor activities to reduce the risk of heatstroke and exhaustion.

Avoid Strenuous Activities: Engaging in physically demanding tasks should be avoided to prevent overexertion in the sweltering conditions.

Check on Vulnerable Loved Ones: The elderly and infants are particularly susceptible to the adverse effects of extreme heat. Regularly checking on them and assisting them in staying cool and hydrated is essential.

Never Leave Children or Pets in Hot Cars: Leaving children or pets unattended in vehicles can have deadly consequences during a heatwave. Such actions must be strictly avoided.

Look Out for Heat-Related Symptoms: Being vigilant about recognizing symptoms of heat-related illnesses, such as heatstroke, heat exhaustion, and heat cramps, is crucial in seeking prompt medical attention.

With this timely warning, the WHO aims to raise awareness about the potential dangers of the ongoing heatwave and guide individuals in taking appropriate precautions to safeguard their health. Public cooperation in adhering to these guidelines can play a vital role in preventing heat-related emergencies during this challenging weather period. (ILKHA)
