Border security teams are closely monitoring the situation as approximately 60,000 immigrants await their chance to cross the border.

The T42 law, enacted in 2020, aimed to deport individuals attempting to enter the country illegally and expired on Thursday at 23:59.

The termination of the law prompted tens of thousands of immigrants to flock to the US-Mexico border.

Raul Ortiz, Chief of US Customs and Border Protection, has reported that over 60,000 immigrants are presently waiting at the border in their attempt to enter the United States.

Ortiz stated that response teams are prepared to address the influx of illegal immigrants anticipated to enter the country.

However, he emphasized that the number of immigrants in border patrol facilities has exceeded their capacity.

Ortiz stressed that irregular immigrants entering the US and seeking asylum will continue to be returned to Mexico.

He also highlighted the increased difficulty for immigrants to obtain asylum in the US due to decisions made by the Joe Biden administration.

Additionally, Ortiz noted that smugglers play a role in causing congestion at the border, as they utilize social media to disseminate misinformation about US government policies, which influences the decisions of immigrants. (ILKHA)
