Gunfire hits Türkiye's ambassador vehicle in Sudan amid ongoing army-paramilitary clashes

No casualties were reported in the incident, and the source of the gunfire remains unclear. Turkish diplomatic sources, speaking anonymously due to lack of authorization, provided this information.

The fighting, which began on April 15, involves army chief Abdel Fattah Al Burhan and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo.

The conflict has resulted in over 550 fatalities and numerous injuries. A major point of contention between the two sides is the integration of the RSF into the armed forces, a crucial aspect of Sudan's transition agreement with political groups.

Sudan has been without a functioning government since the fall of 2021, when the military dismissed Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok's transitional government and declared a state of emergency, leading to allegations of a coup by political forces.

The transitional period, initiated in August 2019 following the removal of President Omar Al Bashir, was originally intended to culminate in early 2024 elections. (ILKHA)
