Described as the "necklace of the Çanakkale Strait", the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge will be inaugurated on the 107th anniversary of the March 18 Çanakkale Naval Victory.

Nearly 5,100 personnel, along with officials from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure General Directorate of Highways worked to build the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge which connects Asia and Europe for the first time over the Çanakkale Strait, and 740 pieces of construction equipment were used.

Preparations have been made for the inauguration of the bridge and motorway connection in one of Türkiye’s most prestigious projects, which will connect Istanbul to Çanakkale and then to the North Aegean region. The project area’s landscape design was completed and 516,863 saplings were planted as part of the landscaping. The bridge's connection points and barriers were checked, and faults were corrected.

The assembly of four cannonball figures, each weighing 75 tons and standing 20.5 meters tall, that will be installed on top of the four towers to represent the cannonball carried on the back of Seyit Onbaşı, one of the heroes of the Çanakkale War, is now underway.

Following the March 18 Martyrs' Day and the 107th-anniversary ceremonies of the Çanakkale Naval Victory on Gallipoli Peninsula, President Erdoğan will inaugurate the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge tomorrow.

World's longest middle span bridge

The 4,608-meter-long 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, known as the "bridge of symbols" for its features and the "longest middle span bridge in the world" for its engineering details, will shorten the travel time between the two continents to 6 minutes.

The ports, railways, and air transportation systems in the Marmara and Aegean regions will be integrated with land transportation projects via the Malkara-Çanakkale Motorway and the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, allowing for economic development and the creation of balanced planning and structuring required by industry in these regions.

The bridge's main cable, known as "one of the best" projects, was made up of 162 thousand kilometers of wire, enough to go around the world four times. Tower caissons are comparable in size to a football field, and the 227 thousand cubic meters of concrete used in the bridge would enable for the building of a district with a population of 25 thousand people, including 5 thousands and 900 100-square-meter flats.

The bridge's 2 thousand 23-meter middle span symbolizes the Republic's 100th anniversary, while its 318-meter steel towers symbolize the Çanakkale Naval Victory of March 18, 1915. The 334-meter-high project, whose red-and-white towers represent the Turkish flag, has been named as the suspension bridge with the world’s tallest towers. (ILKHA)
