The civil war, which has been ongoing in southern Sudan since 2013 and caused the loss of tens of thousands of people's life, ended with a peace agreement.

Opponents and the government agreed on peace in the meeting during the 33rd Extraordinary IGAD Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The peace agreement signed between Salva Kiir, President of Southern Sudan, and Riek Machar, the opposition leader, who was Kiir's former vice president.

Kiir accused Machar of "coup attempt" in December 2013, clash began followed by between Salva Machar linked militias and Kiir's powers.

Kiir and Machar decided to face-face interviews this summer, after the peace talks in 2016 were inconclusive. Negotiations concluded with an agreement. (ILKHA)
