While millions of students attend schools in Şanlıurfa in the 2017-2018 academic year, students working in agriculture in the provinces couldn’t start school.

Children working in the cotton fields to contribute their family budget in Şanlıurfa’s Viranşehir couldn’t attend their class. Students in Değim (hervani) village who work in cotton fields said that they have to contribute family budget and to meet their school expenses instead of going to school and this work will continue for a month.

Halil İbrahim Özgeyçi, one of the labors in the field said that they go to outside of the city as the seasonal worker or work in fields every year, “We're here to collect cotton and irrigation. Schools have started but our children are picking cotton with us. I do not want them to miss their lessons. They do not want to go because of our financial situation. “After working one month and earning our school money, we will go to our school,” they say. I want them to go, but I cannot force them in. The money that we will win here goes to the costumes of children and their daily expenses in the school season.” (ILKHA)
