In a TV channel that he participated in evaluated the chemical attack in Syria and the US attack on the military base in Syria, the President's spokesman Ibrahim Kalın said, “If Syria had a safe zone, it would not be a chemical attack.”

Responding to the question, “Do you think this step will make the regime give up using chemical weapons in the future?” Kalın said, “Our hope is in this direction. That's why we supported the air attack on the Shayrat Air Base in the Homs region last night.”

Kalın said: “The Assad regime continued these war crimes with both chemical and conventional weapons, so President Trump retaliated against the Assad regime last night, revealing that the chemical attacks would no longer go unpunished. But of course there are other steps to be taken to end the war and to prevent Assad regime from further crimes.”

Though the common goal is to produce a political solution, Kalın said, “The general understanding is that Assad will not remain in office at the end of this political settlement process. But it will take time and many bargains to determine exactly how it will be done. The second point is to establish safe zones and prohibited areas in Syria that our President has brought to the agenda. We say that this step should be taken for a long time. If Syria had safe territories and prohibited flights, it probably would not have been this chemical attack or other atrocities.” (ILKHA)
