Assistance to the refugees in Montenegro from the European Orphan Association
The International Humanitarian Relief Foundation European Orphan Association [Avrupa Yetim-Der] has delivered food and winter needs assistance to 140 families in the refugee camp in Gusinye village of Plav city of Montenegro, who have been struggling for 25 years under challenging conditions.
The European Orphan Association continues to aid the Balkans with a delegation created by the Headquarters for refugees and orphans in Montenegro and Serbia.
European Orphan Association, reached refugees who had to take refuge in Montenegro due to wars in the Balkan countries in the 1990s. Helped refugees with food and winter needs in the Gusinye town of Plavy.
European Orphan Association President Hüseyin Ateş, who is presenting the help to refugees living in Montenegro, stated that there around 140 families living in Gusinye for over 25 years and that these refugees are not returning in their countries and that they are trying to survive in difficult living conditions because they cannot get citizenship in Montenegro.
According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the number of refugees from neighboring countries in Montenegro is around 16,000, due to wars between 1992 and 1994. In four Western Balkan countries, around 73,500 refugees and displaced persons live below the poverty line. Of these, 45 thousand are in Serbia, 14 thousand are in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 8,500 are in Croatia and 6 thousand are still in Montenegro. (ILKHA)
