The foundation of major rebuilt projects in Diyarbakir to rebuild the historical city of Sur, which was severely damaged due to conflicts, was laid. The ceremony was held in İçkale [inside castle] in Sur district for groundbreaking 1st phase of TOKI [the State Housing Authority] Landscape Design and Recreation Project, Traditional Diyarbakir Houses and Dicle Valley Landscape and Recreation Project.

The program that started with the recitation of the Qur'an continued with the cinematography of the presentation of Diyarbakir.

"Houses will reflect the classical Diyarbakir houses"

Speaking at the ceremony, Environment and Urbanism Minister Özhaseki said, "There will be no houses in the district of Sur those not reflecting culture anymore. Ugly buildings shouldn’t be here. Our traditions have stone houses. The houses built after that will reflect the classical Diyarbakir houses. This will be a big center and everyone will be visiting. Many civilizations were established in this region. This geography is actually the geography where the oppressed people migrated."

In his speech Özhaseki said, "The evil foci in the world did not stop, it started with ‘gezi’ events first. A trial of revolution, a revolution of the judiciary and similar attempts of revolution took place. Which finally they revealed their treacherous plans, we were faced with a coup attempt by the FETO organization. Those who backed from outsiders were attacked. They don’t want these adhan want to be read, the flags to fluctuate. They want to break up, play like toys with us. Thanks To Allah we are fighting."

Özhaseki stated that they have detected everyone's damages in the district of Sur. Finally, he said: "We are restoring our historical buildings by facilitating the work of tradesmen for the trade to continue. There are thousands of houses that have begun construction by TOKI and they have finished these houses. We can surrender our homes. Houses in Ali Pasha Lale Bey neighborhoods are finished. Today we are having three groundbreaking. We will pay for the house if the owner ask. We will give the house to the owner if they want, or we will construct a house if someone has a land."

"128 million TL was helped to Sur"

Diyarbakir Governor Hüseyin Aksoy, who made a speech at the ceremony, said, "Up to now, 128 million TL has been realized for the repair of the historical textures of Sur. Until today, about 40 million TL cash benefits were given to the citizens who left their homes. Those who did not have a place and left the house were looked at in the hotels. 10 thousand million cash benefits to 2 thousand 262 citizens suffered damage."
