Steinmeier, who had previously been in Istanbul for official engagements, traveled to Gaziantep where he encountered demonstrations organized by the Al-Quds Platform.

Citizens gathered to express their discontent with Germany's backing of the ongoing israeli genocide in Gaza. Banners and signs in both German and English were displayed, with chants condemning Israel and Germany's collaboration.

During the protest, some residents also displayed Palestinian flags from their balconies, showing solidarity with Palestine.

Murat Şahin, the Provincial President of the Human Rights and Freedoms Humanitarian Aid Association, spoke on behalf of the demonstrators. He emphasized the importance of remembering that the victims of the Gaza genocide include children, particularly poignant on April 23, which marks National Sovereignty and Children's Day in Türkiye.

Şahin pledged that the protests would continue until Gaza achieves freedom, expressing confidence in the eventual success of their cause.

Amidst tight security measures, Steinmeier visited Gazikent Primary School, departing via an alternate route to avoid the protest area.

HÜDA PAR Provincial Youth Presidency also supported the protest. (ILKHA)
