Sudan affirms commitment to Jeddah talks, rejects UN-proposed negotiations

Following a meeting chaired by Lt General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Information Minister Graham Abdel Gader declared the Jeddah platform "the sole forum" for peace talks. He dismissed reports of negotiations elsewhere, including those proposed by UN Under-Secretary-General Martin Griffiths in Switzerland, as "false."

Griffiths previously announced an agreement with Sudanese authorities to discuss humanitarian aid delivery under the Jeddah Agreement in Switzerland. However, the Sudanese government's latest stance effectively nullifies this UN-led initiative.

Sudan also suspended its membership in the East African Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and rejected its proposed ceasefire and political process negotiations. This move further underscores Khartoum's determination to stick to the Jeddah platform.

Reports of separate meetings in Bahrain between Sudanese army and RSF representatives remain unconfirmed, adding an element of ambiguity to the already complex situation. (ILKHA)
