The attack is the latest in a series of ISIS-initiated attacks in the Syrian desert, and it underscores the ongoing threat posed by the extremist group.

The attack occurred on the road leading to T2 in Al-Mayadeen desert, a region that has seen intensified armed activities in recent months.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, ISIS operatives specifically targeted the military bus, which was carrying a large number of regime soldiers. The attack resulted in the deaths of 23 soldiers and the injury of 10. The fate of several others remains uncertain.

SOHR, which closely monitors the conflict and its developments, has noted an alarming uptick in the number of regime soldiers losing their lives in ISIS-initiated attacks within the Syrian desert.

Since the outset of 2023, the death toll from military operations in this region has now reached a staggering count of 402. (ILKHA)
