Kashmir Solidarity Day was commemorated at the Pakistan Embassy with the participation of Chairperson Human Rights Investigation Commission of the Turkish Parliament, Derya Yanık.

The participants reaffirmed their support for the legitimate Kashmiri demand for the right of self-determination.

Yousaf Junaid, Ambassador of Pakistan to Türkiye, spoke at the event, commemorating the victims of the February 6 earthquakes that killed more than 50,000 people in Türkiye.

“May the souls of those who lost their lives in the earthquakes rest in peace, and may Allah give patience to their families,” he said. Junaid expressed gratitude for the attendees' presence to support the Kashmir dispute, the longest remaining dispute on the UN agenda.

Junaid highlighted the historical context of the Kashmir issue, emphasizing the promised plebiscite for the Kashmiris in 1947, which was never held. He condemned the human rights violations committed by India in the region and the ongoing suffering of the Kashmiri people.

He also addressed the strange situation where a powerful country denies even the smallest rights to the people of a small region, turning it into a prison camp. Junaid praised Turkey for its continuous support and brotherhood, mentioning Turkey's assistance during the flood disaster in Pakistan and the 2005 Kashmir earthquake.

Kashmir Solidarity Day is observed annually on February 5th in Pakistan to express support for the people of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.

The day aims to raise awareness about the longstanding Kashmir conflict, highlight human rights violations, and advocate for the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people.

Various activities, including rallies and cultural events, are organized to emphasize the importance of resolving the Kashmir issue peacefully.

The day symbolizes unity among Pakistanis in standing with Kashmir and underscores the need for international attention to address the ongoing conflict. (ILKHA)
