The IRGC claimed the attack targeted "spy headquarters" of anti-Iran groups, though the accuracy of this claim is disputed.

At least five ballistic missiles struck near Erbil-Pirmam road and Erbil International Airport around 11:36 pm on Monday, causing loud explosions and widespread fear among residents.

Four civilians were confirmed dead and 17 injured in the attack. Material damage was also reported, with residences near Pirmam road sustaining heavy damage.

The IRGC claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it was in response to "recent terrorist crimes of the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran." However, the nature and location of these alleged crimes remain unclear.

The attack comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and israel following the killing of several top IRGC commanders in Syria, which Iran has blamed on israel.

Erbil International Airport temporarily suspended all inbound and outbound flights in the aftermath of the attack. (ILKHA)
