Addressing a press briefing in New York, Guterres stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire to ensure the prompt delivery of essential aid to the affected areas. He stated, "Nothing can justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people."

Expressing concern over the actions of Israeli forces in Gaza, Guterres described the ongoing assault as resulting in "wholesale destruction" and an unprecedented number of civilian casualties during his tenure as Secretary-General.

Highlighting the challenging conditions faced by aid workers in delivering assistance within Gaza, Guterres emphasized that these efforts are being undertaken under immense pressure and without safety guarantees.

The UN chief noted that 152 UN employees have lost their lives in the Gaza Strip since October 7, shedding light on the critical situation and the impact of the prolonged conflict on humanitarian workers. (ILKHA)
