In 2023, production quantities of cereals and other crops (except fodder crops) increased by 10.3%, vegetables increased by 0.6%, and fruits, beverage and spices crops increased by 2.3% when compared with the previous year.

Production quantities for 2023 became approximately as follows; 77.7 million tonnes for cereals and other crops, 31.8 million tonnes for vegetables, and 27.4 million tonnes for fruits, beverage and spices crops.

Cereals production increased in 2023 when compared with the previous year

In 2023 cereals production increased with a rate of 9.1% when compared with the previous year and approximately became 42.2 million tonnes.

Wheat production increased by 11.4% to became 22 million tonnes, barley production increased by 8.2% and became 9.2 million tonnes, rye production increased by 11.7% and became 305 thousand tonnes, oats production increased by 12.3% and became 410 thousand tonnes when compared with the previous year.

In the dry pulses group, chick pea, dry beans, red lentil production became respectively 580 thousand tonnes, 240 thousand tonnes, 424 thousand tonnes. The production of potatoes, one of tuber crops, increased by 9.6% and became 5.7 million tonnes.

In the group of oil seeds, soybean production decreased with a rate of 11.3% and became 137.5 thousand tonnes, and sunflower production became approximately 2.2 million tonnes with 13.8% decrease.

Sugar beets production increased by 22.1% and became 23.5 million tonnes.

Vegetables production increased in 2023 compared with the previous year

In 2023 vegetables production increased with a rate of 0.6% when compared with the previous year and approximately became 31.8 million tonnes.

Regarding to the production of some crops in vegetables; increments became in tomatoes production by 2.3%, in onion (dry) production by 10.6%, in pepper (for processed, capia) production by 8.2% while decrements occurred by 7.3% in watermelon, 11.6% in melon, 3.4% in cucumber.

Fruits production increased in 2023 when compared with the previous year

Fruits, beverage and spices crops production became 27.4 million tonnes in 2023 with an increase of 2.3% when compared with the previous year.

In the fruits group, when compared with the previous year, decrements became in apple production by 4.5%, in olive production by 48.9% while increments became in the total of peaches and nectarine production by 6.8%, in cherries production by 12.3% and in sour cherries production by 19.5%.

In the citrus group, increments became in the production of mandarin by 58.3%, 74.8% in oranges, 75.8% in lemons production. In nuts group, decrements became in hazelnuts production by 15.0%, in pistachios production by 26.4% while increment with 7.5% became for walnuts.

Decrement became by 6.7% in the production of bananas.

Ornamental plants production increased in 2023 when compared with the previous year

Ornamental plants production increased by 4.0% in 2023 when compared to the previous year.

When the shares of flowers in the total ornamental plant production are examined, it was seen that total cut flowers had a share of 65.3% and other ornamental plants had a share of 34.7%.

Cut flowers production decreased by 0.8% while other ornamental plants production increased by 14.5% when compared to the previous year. (ILKHA)
