Turkish residents take 13.6 million domestic trips in Q2

Domestic trips, including one or more overnight stays, experienced a 41% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, totaling 16,084,000 trips. Over the course of the quarter, domestic visitors clocked 100,108,000 overnight stays, with an average of 6.2 nights per trip.

Trip expenditures by domestic tourists in this period witnessed a substantial increase of 142.5% compared to the same quarter the previous year, reaching a total of 47,792,417,000 Turkish Lira.

Of the total expenditure, 90.6% was categorized as individual, amounting to 43,311,528,000 TL, while 9.4% accounted for package tour expenditures, totaling 4,480,889,000 TL. The average expenditure per trip was 2,971 TL.

The analysis of the distribution of expenditure types within total travel expenses for the quarter revealed the highest shares in eating and drinking expenditures at 32.9%, followed by transportation expenditures at 26.4%, and accommodation expenditures at 14.4%.

Comparing trip expenditures to the previous year's quarter, the figures showed substantial increases, including 197.3% in eating and drinking expenditures, 73.4% in transportation expenditures, and 235.1% in accommodation expenditures.

The primary purpose of the trips was "visiting relatives," making up 65.4% of the total, followed by "travel, leisure, vacation" at 27.7%, and "health" at 3.3%.

Regarding the number of overnight stays by accommodation type, domestic visitors favored the "house of friend or relative," with 70,880,000 overnight stays. The "own house" came in second, with 12,872,000 overnight stays, followed by "hotels" at 8,005,000 overnight stays. (ILKHA)
