Gunmen kill 12 farm workers in deadly attack on Niger villages
Gunmen launched an attack on two villages in Niger's expansive Tillaberi border region, resulting in the tragic death of twelve farm workers.
According to a municipal official from Anzourou district, "There were 12 deaths following the attack on Thursday afternoon by armed men."
The victims were all male individuals hailing from the villages of Doukou Saraou and Doukou Makani, which are situated a mere kilometer apart from each other.
The Tillaberi region, characterized by its unstable and arid conditions, lies in the tri-border area where southwestern Niger converges with Mali and Burkina Faso. The geographical location makes it susceptible to security challenges and poses a serious concern for the safety of civilians and workers in the region.
As investigations into the incident are ongoing, authorities are yet to provide specific details regarding the motives and identities of the attackers. (ILKHA)
