The announcement came during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

Yoon said that the additional aid would be used to provide humanitarian assistance, support the Ukrainian military, and help with post-war reconstruction. He also said that South Korea would continue to work with Ukraine to bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Zelensky welcomed the increased aid, saying that it would be a "significant contribution" to Ukraine's efforts to defend itself against Russia. He also thanked Yoon for his support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The two leaders also discussed economic cooperation, peace initiatives, food security, and energy security. They agreed to work together to promote peace and stability in the region.

“During this visit, the first in the history of our relations, we are discussing everything that is important for the normal and safe life of people, for the rules-based international order,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter.

“The return of deported adults and children, the implementation of the #PeaceFormula and the preparation of the Global Peace Summit, food and energy security and economic cooperation... I am sure together we will give more strength to our nations and the global positions of Ukraine and the Republic of Korea,” he added.

Yoon's visit to Kyiv was his first foreign trip since taking office in May. It is seen as a sign of South Korea's strong support for Ukraine.

South Korea has been providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine since the start of the war. In March, the country announced that it would provide $10 million in aid, including food, medicine, and shelter. In April, South Korea announced that it would provide an additional $5 million in aid.

South Korea has also been providing military assistance to Ukraine. In April, the country announced that it would provide Ukraine with $1 million worth of bulletproof vests, helmets, and other non-lethal military supplies.

Yoon's visit to Kyiv and the announcement of increased aid to Ukraine are significant developments in South Korea's foreign policy. They demonstrate South Korea's commitment to supporting Ukraine and its resolve to stand up to Russia's aggression.

The increased aid will provide much-needed support to Ukraine at a critical time. It will also help to strengthen South Korea's relationship with Ukraine and its position in the international community.

The implications of Yoon's visit and the announcement of increased aid to Ukraine are significant. They could lead to closer cooperation between South Korea and Ukraine, as well as a stronger stance by South Korea against Russia.

The visit could also have implications for South Korea's relationship with the United States. The United States has been a strong supporter of Ukraine, and it is likely that the Biden administration will welcome Yoon's visit and the increased aid.

Overall, Yoon's visit and the announcement of increased aid to Ukraine are a positive development for South Korea and Ukraine. They demonstrate South Korea's commitment to supporting Ukraine and its resolve to stand up to Russia's aggression. (ILKHA)
