He emphasized that the war in Ukraine, led by Russia, needs to end before considering Ukraine's inclusion in the alliance.

Biden highlighted that while discussions regarding Ukraine's potential NATO membership are premature, the United States and its NATO allies will continue to support President Volodymyr Zelensky and provide the necessary security and weaponry to help resolve the conflict with Russia.

Ahead of his visit to Europe, including a NATO summit in Lithuania, Biden acknowledged that there is no consensus within NATO regarding Ukraine's immediate integration into the alliance during an ongoing war. He stressed the commitment of NATO member countries to defend every inch of NATO territory, stating that if the war continues, it implies being at war with Russia.

The President mentioned his extensive conversations with President Zelensky, assuring him that the US would continue to provide security assistance and weaponry, similar to its support for Israel, throughout the process. Biden stressed the need to establish a rational path for Ukraine to qualify for NATO membership, considering factors such as democratization and other requirements.

Regarding the provision of controversial ammunition to Ukraine, Biden admitted it was a difficult decision but justified it due to Ukraine's depleted ammunition supplies. He expressed optimism about the eventual admission of Sweden to NATO, highlighting Türkiye's modernization efforts for its F-16 fleet and Greece's support for Sweden's inclusion.

Biden shared his intention to strengthen NATO's military capabilities in Greece and Türkiye, creating a consortium that would facilitate Sweden's admission. However, he emphasized that the process is ongoing and not yet finalized. (ILKHA)
