This resumption of hostilities marks a continuation of the eight-week-long conflict between rival military factions, leading to some of the most intense battles witnessed in recent weeks.

Eyewitnesses report ground battles and fierce fighting between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the densely populated neighborhood of Haj Youssef in Bahri, one of Khartoum's three adjoining cities. These cities, including Omdurman, form the capital around the convergence point of the River Nile.

Following the expiration of the ceasefire at 6 a.m. (0400 GMT), witnesses confirm clashes and artillery fire resuming in the northern region of Omdurman. Reports also indicate ongoing fighting in the southern and central parts of Khartoum, as well as in Shambat along the Nile in Bahri, extending towards the strategically significant Halfiya bridge, which connects to Omdurman.

The breakdown of the ceasefire has shattered the temporary calm that had prevailed. These clashes underscore the enduring power struggle between various military factions in Sudan, emphasizing the volatile situation in the capital and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
