The stranded migrants, found in rubber boats near the coastal areas of Izmir, Balıkesir, and Çanakkale in western Türkiye, were promptly rescued by the Turkish Coast Guard, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Upon their rescue, the migrants were transported to the provincial migration office, where they will receive further assistance. This incident underscores Türkiye's crucial role as a key player in migration, situated between Europe and Asia, with responsibilities encompassing origin, transit, and destination.

Türkiye has been facing a growing influx of migrants seeking refuge, a trend that has intensified due to recent events in the region. The country currently provides shelter to approximately 4 million refugees and asylum-seekers, with over 3.7 million Syrians receiving temporary protection. However, this substantial number of migrants has strained Türkiye's resources and infrastructure, necessitating significant efforts from the government and various organizations to effectively address their needs.

The Turkish Coast Guard's relentless commitment to maritime security and the prevention of irregular migration deserves commendation. In 2022, their proactive measures resulted in the interception of a significant number of irregular migrants, reaching a total of 285,027 compared to 162,000 the previous year. These efforts highlight Türkiye's unwavering dedication to border control and the well-being of migrants, even amidst mounting challenges.

This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the intricate dynamics surrounding migration in the region and emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in tackling this pressing issue. Despite the strain it places on the country, Türkiye continues to play a pivotal role in offering assistance and support to those seeking refuge. (ILKHA)
