Rinkevics, who has held prominent diplomatic positions including representing Latvia in the European Union and NATO, will now assume the highest office in the country.

Expressing his gratitude and humility, Rinkevics stated: "I am honored and humbled to be elected as President of the Republic of Latvia. I will do my best to serve the people of Latvia well. I thank Members of Parliament for their trust."

With an impressive career spanning over a decade, Rinkevics previously served as Latvia's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2023. Prior to assuming this role, he held key positions such as the head of the Chancery of the President of Latvia and State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense. Additionally, Rinkevics has served as a deputy of the Saeima, the Latvian parliament.

Having represented Latvian Way and the Reform Party in the past, Rinkevics has been a member of the Unity party since May 2014, aligning himself with the party's vision and values.

As the newly elected president, Rinkevics will not only take on the responsibility of leading Latvia but will also represent the nation at the upcoming NATO summit scheduled to be held in Vilnius in July.

His extensive diplomatic experience positions him well to navigate Latvia's relationships on the international stage and address critical matters impacting the country and its role in the European Union and NATO.

Rinkevics's appointment as Latvia's next president signals a significant milestone for the nation, as he prepares to take on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

The Latvian people and the international community will now look to him for leadership and guidance as he assumes this vital role in shaping the future of the country. (ILKHA)
