Fiery highway crash in northern Mexico kills 26
A tragic collision between a passenger van and a freight truck in northern Mexico resulted in the loss of 26 lives on Sunday, according to authorities.
Officials in the border state of Tamaulipas, where the incident took place, explained that the death toll provided was a preliminary estimate due to the extensive wreckage and the intense fire that engulfed both vehicles.
Remarkably, the cab that was pulling the freight trailer was not discovered at the accident site, indicating that the driver may have detached it and fled the scene.
The accident occurred on a highway near Ciudad Victoria, the capital of Tamaulipas, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the collision.
Local media reports suggest that a significant number of the victims may have been part of an extended family, possibly returning from an outing. (ILKHA)
