Magnitude 4.6 aftershock hits southeastern Türkiye three months after devastating earthquake
On Monday night, an aftershock measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale hit the Çelikhan district in Turkey's southeastern Adıyaman province.
The earthquake occurred over three months after a massive magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck the same region.
According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency's website, the aftershock's epicenter was at a latitude of 38.095 degrees north and a longitude of 38.403 degrees east, with a depth of 8.64 km.
On February 6, a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria, resulting in a significant loss of life and widespread damage.
The ten most affected provinces in Turkey, along with neighboring Elazığ and Batman provinces, witnessed at least 45,089 deaths and over 108,000 injuries.
The impact of the earthquake extended to approximately 13.5 million individuals and 4 million structures.
Tragically, numerous individuals were trapped under collapsed buildings, and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change conducted inspections on 763,000 structures. Of these, at least 41,791 buildings across ten Turkish provinces suffered severe damage or were completely destroyed, leaving around 150,000 people homeless. (ILKHA)
