WFP: Humanitarian aid vital for vulnerable Afghans
The head of the United Nations World Food Programme in Afghanistan, Ms. Hsiao-Wei Lee, has pledged that the organization will continue its humanitarian mission in Afghanistan despite any political gaps.
Speaking in Berlin, Germany on Thursday, Lee emphasized the vital importance of humanitarian aid for vulnerable groups in Afghanistan, including women, children, and people with disabilities.
She noted that while humanitarian aid has prevented famine in Afghanistan, millions of Afghans still suffer from food insecurity due to the intensifying humanitarian crisis over the past year and a half.
Lee also highlighted the lack of funds required for humanitarian aid, revealing that the World Food Programme has a funding shortfall of $900 million for the next six months. (ILKHA)
