United States: Shooter, who killed 10 people, kills himself after standoff with police
The suspected gunman, who killed 10 people and injured at least 10 more at a dance club on Saturday, is dead after shooting himself, police said Sunday night.
“Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators are responding to a deputy involved shooting investigation. The incident was reported Sunday, January 22, 2023, at approximately 5:14 p.m., at the 2100 block of El Sereno Avenue, in the city of Altadena. The suspect was struck by gunfire and pronounced deceased at the scene. There is no additional information available at this time,” Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.
The gunman was identified as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran, who migrated from China to the United States.
He met his former wife about two decades ago at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio, where he gave informal lessons and was a regular patron.
At the time of the shooting, Tran was a resident of a senior community at a mobile home park in Hemet, a suburb about 85 miles east of Los Angeles. (ILKHA)
