The full text of the statement is as follows:

“Based on the fact that the diversity of languages and colors are among the signs of Allah, a consensus has been formed with the acceptance of all institutions in today's world for the preservation and development of languages that are about to disappear. Within this direction, 21 February was declared to be International Mother Language Day. Multilingualism is a result of civilization.

Our precious Diyarbakir city, which has been the cradle of civilizations, is preserving many dialects and languages together with their cultures for ages and still paying a price for this. One of the most important elements that connect societies to their own cultures is language. Therefore, it is one of the basic responsibilities of states towards their own societies and humanity to support and keep the mother languages alive. The disappearance of languages is actually the disappearance of civilizations and ancient cultures. The coexistence of different languages and ethnic groups in our city is a great wealth.

Our party, HÜDA PAR, has been attaching great importance to all languages spoken in our region since the first day it was founded and spending maximum effort to protect and develop these languages. While the policies that aim to raise awareness of the importance of the protection of languages are being established in the world, the negative approach to some languages in Turkey does not fit the culture of this nation. At the same time, HUDA PAR does not give any credit to policies aimed at dividing, transforming, and polarizing society over the mother languages. For this reason, we, as HUDA PAR, say that “Mother language is as legitimate as mother's milk”.

Unfortunately, Turkey has a bad record regarding its policies towards mother languages. Due to the assimilation policies implemented for years; Languages such as Kurmanji, Zazaki, Circassian, Arabic, and Syriac have been diminished over time, and citizens speaking these languages could not adequately pass on their mother languages to their children. The equality of opportunity in education cannot be achieved without education in the mother language. The importance given to the protection and development of the Turkish language should also be given to other languages spoken by citizens as their mother tongue, paving the way for education in the mother tongue. The Ministry of National Education should immediately increase the number of teachers in branches related to other languages, especially Kurdish.

We hope that February 21, International Mother Language Day, will be instrumental in the fusion and development of cultures.” (ILKHA)
