At least 43 people die after boat capsizes off coast of Morocco’s Tarfaya town
The migrants were trying to reach the Spanish Canary Islands, 100 kilometers away from Tarfaya in southern Morocco, Spanish organization Caminando Fronteras said.
At least 43 people of sub-Saharan origin, including three babies, died after a small boat capsized off the coast of the Moroccan town of Tarfaya when it was en route to the Canary Islands, the organization said.
According to Caminando Fronteras, 4,404 people died trying to reach Spain via maritime migration routes in 2021.
This figure includes more than 205 children. 91% of the deaths took place on the Atlantic Route. (ILKHA)
