The Committee said that Tajik border guards were controlling the situation on the state border of Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

This is the third time Afghan troops have fled into Tajikistan over the last three days, bringing the total number of soldiers who retreated to the country to nearly 1,600.

On February 29, 2020, the United States and the Taliban signed a peace agreement titled the Agreement for Bringing Peace to Afghanistan with provisions including the withdrawal of all regular American and NATO troops from Afghanistan, a Taliban pledge to prevent al-Qaeda from operating in areas under Taliban control, and talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government. The deal was supported by Pakistan, Russia, and China and unanimously endorsed by the UN Security Council.

On 2 July 2021, Germany and Italy withdrew their troops from Afghanistan, meanwhile, U.S. troops left the Bagram Airfield entirely, handing it to the Afghan Armed Forces.

On the other hand, fighting raged between the Taliban and government forces amid the ongoing US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. (ILKHA)
