87 irregular migrants nabbed in Turkey’s capital, police say
87 irregular migrants have been nabbed in the Ipekyolu district of Turkey’s eastern province, the Provincial Police Department said in a statement on Saturday.
Among the migrants were 64 Afghan, 9 Pakistani, 2 Iran and 12 Bangladeshi nationals, the statement said.
5 human traffickers were also arrested in the operation, it added.
The statement added that the necessary procedures for the deportation of irregular migrants have been initiated.
Turkey has traditionally been a major transit port for irregular immigrants to enter the European countries.
According to the official reports, 454,662 irregular migrants held across the country in 2019. (ILKHA)
