Turkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a trilateral summit on "Syria" in Iran's capital, Tehran.

Speaking at the summit, President Erdoğan emphasized that the outcome of the summit is being awaited by the whole world at this moment.

Noting that many developments have taken place since the second meeting of the trilateral summit held back in April in Ankara and that all these developments have been discussed in detail during their third meeting, President Erdoğan said: "As Turkiye, we have voiced the dangers that might arise unless the Syrian regime is reined in. We have stated that attacks on Idlib will further aggravate the situation on the ground and result in the collapse of the political process."

Pointing to the role Turkiye plays in sustaining the calm on the ground by means of its 12 observation posts in Idlib, President Erdoğan said, "It is of vital importance that civilians in the region be protected, terrorist elements separated and Idlib's current status preserved. That is so because Idlib is a small model of entire Syria. Negative effects of any wrong step to be taken in Idlib will be felt everywhere. Methods that disregard the security of Syrian civilians will only play into the hands of terrorists."

"Turkiye has been working to stop the bloodshed in Syria since the very beginning," President Erdoğan underlined, adding, "We have stood by our Syrian brothers and sisters without any discrimination. Never do we want the people of Idlib, who have sustained grave sufferings, to face new tragedies. This sensitivity of ours lies behind the importance we attach to the summit."

President Erdoğan continued: "The Idlib issue should be resolved in line with the spirit of Astana without giving rise to new sufferings, tensions or troubles. It is important to maintain the principles we have agreed upon in Astana in order to find a sustainable political solution to the Syrian crisis."

Referring to his bilateral talks with Russian President Putin, President Erdoğan underlined he told his Russian counterpart that no one should engage in any fait accompli on the ground under the guise of war on terror and that separatist agendas aimed at undermining Syria's territorial integrity as well as the national security of the neighboring countries should be prevented.

"It is our desire that a lasting solution is found to the Syrian conflict on the basis of the parameters set out in UNSC Resolution 2254," President Erdoğan further stressed and noted: "The responsibility falls to not only the three guarantor states but to the entire international community. It is necessary for all the stakeholders to come together on a common ground for the solution of the Syrian conflict. As Turkiye, we will continue our efforts to that end."

Erdoğan calls ceasefire

Insisting that the "ceasefire" word should also take place in the declaration, Erdoğan said, "Immigration and asylum have begun in İdlib. They are coming towards our borders. A ceasefire must be ensured. Measures to be taken against terrorists should be taken together. The joint work of our intelligence forces is important. In this regard, steps should be taken expeditiously, ensuring the ceasefire is important. If we can make a ceasefire proclamation here, it will be one of the most important steps of the summit and the civilians will relax peacefully in serious manners. Let's call Nusra, HTS, and others to drop weapons." (ILKHA)
