Parliamentary elections started in Iraq

Before the general elections in Iraq on Saturday May 12, members of the security unit began to vote in the polls Tuesday parliamentary elections.

The Iraqi Supreme Electoral Commissioner Kerim Tamimi announced at a press conference Wednesday that more than 800 people, consisting of security forces affiliated with the central government and the Peshmarga forces linked to the Kurdistan Region, will use their votes.

In Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, voters who are in the category of security forces and special voters will be able to use the vote until 18.00.

Iraqis and people of Kurdistan living in Turkiye can go on the ballot in 16 centers in Istanbul, Ankara, Yalova, Sakarya, Çorum, and Mersin provinces. Ballots in Turkiye will be closed at 18:00.

For voters who vote in 21 countries abroad, voting will continue tomorrow.

Some 6,986 candidates are competing for the 329 seats Iraqi Parliament. 24 million voters will vote in general elections on Saturday, May 12. (ILKHA)
