In some villages of the Western Yaghwa region of Jigawa state, north of Nigeria, 75 people have died in the past 3 weeks due to an unidentified illness.

According to national press reports, 75 people who had been hospitalized due to complaints of diarrhea, bloody vomiting, fainting, high fever, headache and body pain, lost their lives.

Nigeria's Health Commissioner Saka Audu said the disease, which treats as an epidemic, is dangerous but they still could not diagnose the disease.

"The outbreak was originally thought to be Lassa fever, but because of the bloody vomit in the case, we gave up on this possibility and decided to do some other tests," said Audu, who had stated that 2 children lost their lives within 12 hours after they caught this disease.

On the other hand, at least a thousand Lassa fever cases have been encountered in the country since January. Approximately 200 people are believed to have died from this disease.

The disease shows mild symptoms such as fever, headache, and fatigue in the first place. Some patients even show no symptoms. However, the disease may be fatal in the future. The disease is spreading through the African multimammae rats. (ILKHA)
