Frequent drinking water service interruption in Hilvan harasses the public, while the people of the district carry water from street fountains to their homes to provide drinking water.

Describing the grievance of their victims, the Hilvanians said that the authorities they went to talk on the problem sent them to different places. Also, complain about the authorities remember them only during the elections.

Imam Man, who operates a bread oven in the Bahçelievler Neighborhood, expressed his reaction to all the authorities and said:

“We just want water”

“They keep cutting our water for about ten years. At the time of the vote, the authorities come here from Ankara and Istanbul with their families. Every time we want water, they say today or tomorrow you will get the water, but there is water. They should come and see the water we drink now, it is undrinkable. No matter what the water is coming from, we are willing to accept it, and still no water. Everyone complains about this situation. We are complaining from the President, the Prime Minister, the mukhtar, the mayor, and ŞUSKI [Drinking water providing service]. We get water every 15 days. We are filling water tanks with the water pump. At the moment, the water tanks are empty. Ninety percent of the people are the victim. We do not want anything, we just want water.”

“I could not find water to wash my face at home and I washed the face in the street”

Mehmet Asar, who lives in the same neighborhood, also stated that they were victims of water cut and said that his children could not find water to use when they came from the field work on and they had trouble because of this reason:

“We do not have water in a week. We go to the municipality "Go to ŞUSKİ" they say. We go to ŞUSKI ‘call metropolitan municipality’ they say. Then we call metropolitan municipality, ‘fault fixed’ they say. I could not find water to wash my face at home this morning, I came and washed the face in the street. There is no water in a week. I am carrying drinking water to homes with horse carriages. When my children come from the field, they find no water to use and wash their clothes. They are sleeping with their dirt, is not it a pity? Where will this go? I complain to the authorities. People have been miserable, come and solve this water problem.”

“We have been experiencing water cuts in the Hilvan district since 1926”

Saying that Hilvan became a district in 1926 and that they always have a water problem, Mehmet Gümüş expressed the victimization they had experienced and said:

“I have been living in Hilvan for 30 years, and since 1926 we have been experiencing water cuts in Hilvan. State officials never care about this situation. At the time of the election, everyone starts to flaunt and say that we will bring your water first. After the elections are over, we are forgotten here. We do not want much, we just want our rights. We live in 2017, is there anything as natural as asking for water? Faruk Çelik, where is the water, we have been waiting since 2002? How long can this water malfunction last? How many days, how many months, how many years ... No purification, we do not want it on the water, bring us water. Water is life, and life cannot be without water. You already can’t give the job opportunity, at least give us the right to live. There are 12 deputies in Şanlıurfa. Is there a water shortage in the home of a deputy or mayor's house? Why am I having water troubles, what difference do I have in them? Are not they ordinary people too? They go there with my vote and sit there [Parliamentary]. Will not the election time come again, they will come and ask for a vote then who will look at their face and ask for a vote.” (Ramazan Şefkatlı - ILKHA)
