Responses of Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar to the questions of Turkish Parliamentary Coup Attempt Research Commission revealed. According to Akar, on the question of what precautions he took after the intelligence from MIT, he said that was informed on the 15th of July after lunch.

Aker said that he met with MIT Undersecretary Hakan Fidan because of the intelligence transferred to MIT through a pilot majors.

“It wasn’t the coup mentioned in the information came from MIT, it was about an operation that was alleged to be done against MIT Undersecretary,” said Akar and added that “this issue being dealt with very seriously” and that the necessary precautions have been taken “without hesitation”.

Akar described the first measure taken in this direction as all the military aircraft and helicopters in the air in Turkiye to return to the bases, including Ankara, to the Armed Forces Command Operation Center [SKKHM], at 18.30, and not allowing new departures.

“They get caught in a panic, they acted earlier”

Akar said, “It is because of these measures taken, in my opinion that the traitors have been revealed early on by taking the work they plan to do late at night (3:00 am), according to what we learned from the accused figures, and thus became an important factor that the coup attempt failed.

Chief of General Staff Akar was asked, “What is the reason that the leak of FETO into the Turkish Armed Forces is not being realized?”, he responded as, “It is not the case that we are not noticed, of course, it is recognized and even defined as the highest risk at the highest level," gave the answer. Akar, however, evaluated this structure as “it wasn’t something that was expected from this structure in which they would control the government dared to overthrow the elected government with a coup, to control the Turkish Armed Forces, including other institutions and Turkiye.” (ILKHA)
