Students will complete the first semester of the 2016-2017 education and training year by taking the report today.

Hasan Kalyoncu University Guidance and Psychological Counseling Specialist Özgür Osman Demir, who warned parents about the report card psychology, stated that it is so wrong to award a child who has higher grade as bad as punishing a child with a low grade in their report card.

Demir said, "It is a process that everyone in the report period waits with enthusiasm. But sometimes the families can reflect this excitement to their children in different ways. They can get angry and falsely reacted in bad cases. There is something we shouldn’t forget here, report card is something we can’t change when it comes. You have to accept it first. The families need to keep this calm at first."

"We need to know that every child is different and make them feel it"

"If you react negatively to low grades, it can lead to bad results in long term" said Demir and added "We should not do anything that will affect the future of the child. If we make the child feel failure emotion, it we give the child ‘you are unsuccessful’ image, then we will have the opportunity to turn it into a future that we cannot change that report card. It is important that the parents never have to be excited and calm at first. Most importantly they should not compare the children's notes with any of them and themselves. We need to know that each child is different, and that your child is different too, and we need to make the child feels this."

"The parents should not forget that the grades are temporary"

Demir emphasized that it is important for families to instill a sense of trust in their children instead insecurity, saying, "It is important for families to remember that their children's report cards and notes are temporary. I recommended to families say 'I trust you, you will achieve' instead of negative statements such as you cannot, you fail, and you cannot do anything." I have to say that the child has Turkish, mathematical, geometry and physical education grades, and these notes reflect only a part of the life of the child. The important thing is the compassion of the child. The compassion does not write in the report card. Is the child a honest one? It does not write this. The child also has these characteristics: "My son, you are very compassionate, my daughter, you are very honest. I appreciate these qualities, they are not on the report card, but you have such beautiful properties." We need to encourage them, not all the talent of the child is the report card, we have to show it to the child.
