Lebanese casualties mount amid ongoing Israeli strikes
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced Sunday that the death toll from ongoing Israeli airstrikes has climbed to 2,986, with an additional 13,402 wounded.
These figures remain provisional as the bombardment of southern Lebanon continues, the ministry reported.
On Sunday evening, local sources reported multiple Israeli strikes in the Nabatieh district, with drone strikes hitting Marj Harouf and Arab Salim, as well as additional airstrikes on the city of Nabatieh. Earlier, an Israeli drone launched a guided missile targeting a car near a Lebanese army checkpoint in the town of Bait Yahoun in the Bint Jbeil district. Another drone reportedly targeted a house in the nearby town of Shaqra.
In a further escalation, Israeli warplanes targeted the area surrounding the Government Hospital in Tebnin, Bint Jbeil district, for the third time, according to local sources. The ongoing airstrikes have drawn widespread concern over the targeting of civilian areas and critical infrastructure.
Local sources reported that five bodies, including those of two children, were pulled from the rubble of a building struck in Wata al-Khiam. Rescue teams, supported by the Lebanese Red Cross, are continuing recovery operations under challenging weather conditions and amidst a shortage of heavy machinery. Sixteen bodies are believed to remain trapped under the debris.
The Lebanese Red Cross has stated that efforts to recover remaining bodies will resume on Monday, as the operation requires additional equipment to navigate the difficult terrain and weather. (ILKHA)
