Smartphone assembly plant opens in Erbil, creating jobs for local workers
A new smartphone assembly plant has opened in Erbil, Kurdistan Region, creating dozens of jobs for local workers.
The plant, established by a Kurdish businessman with Chinese assistance, is partnering with the Chinese smartphone company Infinix.
It is expected to assemble 30,000 phones per month, starting with a single model and expanding to offer more options in the future.
The phones are designed to be physically robust and feature secure software. The plant's components are imported from China, reflecting the growing trade relationship between Iraq and China, which surpassed $50 billion in 2023. (ILKHA)
