Speaking at a joint press conference with Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares in Brussels, Mustafa expressed confidence that European recognition of the Palestinian state would increase significantly. “We trust that the number of European countries that are expected to recognize the Palestinian State will double in the near future,” he stated.

Mustafa called on all countries that have not yet recognized the Palestinian state to join this initiative promptly, emphasizing that such recognition is essential to address the long-standing injustices faced by successive Palestinian generations.

He praised Spain’s decision to recognize the Palestinian state, describing it as a testament to Spain’s steadfast commitment to justice for the Palestinian people. Mustafa also welcomed Spanish President Pedro Sánchez’s statement affirming Spain's recognition of the Palestinian people's legitimate rights to self-determination, freedom, and security.

The Prime Minister highlighted that Spain’s recognition aligns with the stance of 145 out of 193 United Nations member states that already recognize Palestine as a sovereign state. He noted that this collective recognition is crucial for achieving peace and stability in the region. “This is the only way to establish justice and peace in the region,” Mustafa asserted.

Mustafa stressed that the Spanish recognition of Palestinian statehood is consistent with international law and all UN resolutions, including the UN General Assembly resolution supporting Palestine's bid for full UN membership. “We consider this recognition a responsibility that falls on us to work together to reify this political recognition and turn it into reality,” he said.

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares emphasized that recognizing the State of Palestine is a significant act of justice for the Palestinian people and the best way to ensure Israel’s security. “The Palestinians have a right to a state, just as the Israelis have a right to a state,” Albares stated. He also reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. (ILKHA)
