A key focus of the meeting was domestic and international counter-terrorism operations. The Council received briefings on ongoing efforts against threats posed by organizations like PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETO, and DAESH.

The Council emphasized the importance of enhanced strategic cooperation with neighboring Iraq.  They highlighted the significance of joint and multifaceted collaboration in areas like security, economy, energy, and transportation to build a prosperous and stable region.

The Council stressed the need to eliminate any safe havens for terrorist organizations and their supporters within the region.  They urged all actors to act responsibly by severing ties with terrorism.

The Council expressed close monitoring of attacks by the PKK/YPG terrorist organization targeting Turkish citizens and diplomatic missions in Europe.  They called upon European nations to fulfill their responsibility to prevent such acts and hold perpetrators accountable.  The Council emphasized that tolerance towards terrorism would ultimately backfire, jeopardizing public order and potentially making these countries future targets.

The Council strongly condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza.  They criticized Israel's disregard for international law and decisions of the International Court of Justice and the UN Security Council.  The Council urged the international community to take action, including stopping attacks against Palestinians and aid organizations, delivering humanitarian aid, and supporting efforts towards a lasting peace.

The Council concluded by expressing satisfaction with the peaceful and secure environment surrounding the recent local elections on March 31st, 2024. They commended the responsible conduct of Turkish citizens and the dedicated efforts of relevant institutions in ensuring a successful democratic process. (ILKHA)
