The collision also left 40 individuals with varying degrees of injuries, necessitating their immediate transfer to the Trauma and Specialist Centre in Winneba for urgent medical treatment.

In an interview, Kwesi Hughes, the Municipal Fire Officer for Winneba, revealed that preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of the Youtong bus may have been fatigued, possibly falling asleep at the wheel, which led to the catastrophic accident.

The Ghana National Fire Service exhibited great determination as their personnel worked tirelessly to rescue passengers trapped in the Youtong bus. Regrettably, the mate of the fuel tanker lost his life before the rescue team could extricate him.

Reports indicate that the Youtong bus was traveling from Abidjan to Buduburam, while the fuel tanker, carrying petrol, was en route from Accra to Takoradi.

Prompt response and support were provided by the Ghana Ambulance Service, the Police Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service, who arrived at the scene to assist and ensure the well-being of those affected.

This tragic road accident in Ghana serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for vigilance to prevent such devastating incidents from occurring. (ILKHA)
