The Foreign Affairs Minister, Melanie Joly, stated that Canada will not tolerate foreign interference in its internal affairs and warned that diplomats engaging in such behavior would also be sent home.

“This decision has been taken after careful consideration of all factors at play. We remain firm in our resolve that defending our democracy is of the utmost importance,” she added.

The decision was made after careful consideration, and the Canadian government remains committed to defending its democracy.

Last week, China's ambassador was summoned by the Canadian government over allegations of a plot to threaten Chong and his family.

Chong had previously led a motion in Canada's parliament condemning China's treatment of its Uyghur Muslim minority as genocide, resulting in China imposing sanctions on him.

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre introduced a motion in the House of Commons calling for stronger actions against all foreign interference threats, including the expulsion of Chinese diplomats. (ILKHA)
