M23 rebel group declares ceasefire in eastern DR Congo

“M23 declares an effective cease-fire which comes into force this Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. Bunagana time in order to pave the way for direct dialogue with the Government of Kinshasa,” the group said in a communiqué on Tuesday.

The group also called on other regional leaders and international partners to spare no effort to contribute to the ongoing initiatives aimed at restoring peace and stability in Eastern DRC and in the Region as a whole.

The March 23 Movement, often abbreviated as M23 and also known as the Congolese Revolutionary Army, is a rebel military group that is for the most part formed of ethnic Tutsi. (ILKHA)
