During the visit, Bin Salman will discuss regional and international files and the future of international cooperation.

This will be Bin Salman’s first visit to Turkey since the killing of the Washington Post and Middle East Eye journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

On 2 October 2018, Khashoggi was killed in the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul; the move was considered as a turning point on the future hostility between Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

It has been widely alleged that he was killed by the Saudi government, including by Erdogan, although he has refrained from criticizing Saudi Arabia directly and has instead suggested the blame lies with Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

The upcoming visit, which will follow one by the Turkish president Tayyip Recep Erdogan to Saudi Arabia in April, is expected to melt ice between both countries. (ILKHA)
