The statement, a rare case of Security Council unity on an issue related to israel, also called for “an immediate, thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation” into her death.

The UN’s Human Rights Office has also called for a thorough and independent investigation into the killing, saying it might constitute a war crime.

Earlier Friday, Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was laid to rest in a cemetery in occupied Jerusalem, three days after she was fatally shot by zionist occupation forces while reporting on a raid in the West Bank.

Prior to her burial, zionist police forces stormed the grounds of a Jerusalem hospital as the coffin containing the body of Shireen Abu Akleh was being carried on its way to the church for final rituals before burial.

TV images showed the Al Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh’s coffin nearly falling to the ground as police grabbed Palestinian flags from the crowd around the procession outside St Joseph’s hospital in Occupied Jerusalem. (ILKHA)
