Media outlets including El Tiempo and Red Mas cited military sources confirming that the Black Hawk helicopter, with a total of seven occupants onboard consisting of four crew members and three passengers, crashed while conducting landing maneuvers at a military base.

The Colombian National Army issued a statement addressing the incident, stating that the crash occurred in the vicinity of the Cuti Binational military base in Unguía, Chocó. The statement further mentioned that contact had been established with Panamanian authorities for verification purposes.
