Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza: UNRWA reports 100,000 Palestinians killed, injured, or missing

According to UNRWA's Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, nearly 100,000 Palestinians have been affected by the brutal genocide launched by israel in early October.

The situation in Gaza is dire, with more than 80 percent of the 2.3 million population displaced, many of them multiple times. The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor confirms that approximately 90 percent of Gaza's residents have experienced displacement.

UNRWA's humanitarian efforts are severely hampered by safety concerns. A recent incident involved an Israeli artillery attack on one of UNRWA's food convoys delivering aid to starving Palestinians in northern Gaza. The agency emphasizes the urgent need for safe and sustainable humanitarian access throughout the region.

In addition to displacement, Gaza faces widespread destruction. UNRWA has shared footage of its health centers, revealing an unprecedented level of devastation. The agency's spokesperson stated, "There is nothing left. This forced displacement is unfolding before our eyes."

The toll on human lives is staggering. Over 110 Palestinians were killed in a single day due to Israeli shelling. The central city of Deir al-Balah and the southern city of Khan Younis, where displaced civilians seek refuge, have been the primary targets.

The situation is exacerbated by the ongoing siege of the Amal and Nasser hospitals in Khan Younis. Israeli drones continue to fire on residents, further endangering lives.

Since the genocide began on October 7, 2023, Israel has claimed the lives of nearly 27,500 people in Gaza, including a significant number of women and children.

UNRWA calls for urgent international attention and action to address this humanitarian crisis. The people of Gaza deserve more than a ceasefire; they need a different trajectory toward safety and stability. (ILKHA)
