The incessant downpours have affected Mindanao, the country's second-largest island, forcing tens of thousands into emergency shelters.

In the gold mining province of Davao de Oro, at least 10 people lost their lives in recent days due to relentless rains.

Landslides in New Bataan, Maragusan, and Monkayo municipalities accounted for seven deaths, while three people drowned in separate incidents in Pantukan and Maco municipalities.

The Philippines faces a consistent threat from landslides, causing casualties and destruction, with factors like steep slopes, heavy rainfall, and human activities contributing to the problem.

The government is implementing measures, including mapping vulnerable areas and issuing early warnings, to mitigate the impact of such events. (ILKHA)
